From a process to a picture

Turn text into a flowchart

Describe the steps and decisions in a process and let the flowss Studio Agent draft a diagram. If you already have Mermaid source, paste it directly and render it without AI. Both paths leave editable source you can refine.

From starting point to finished diagram

  1. Write the decisions as well as the steps

Name the start and end, actions, decision conditions and each possible outcome. Add who does the work when ownership matters.

  2. Choose prose or source

For prose, open the Studio launchpad, choose Describe it, enter your description and select Build diagram. For Mermaid source, use Paste code and Detect & open.

  3. Review the flow before sharing it

Trace one successful path and one exception path. Check missing loops, unanswered decisions and ambiguous labels, then edit the source to correct them.

Example: validate an input before processing it

A small workflow with two outcomes: valid input is processed and written to an output; invalid input shows an error and ends. The example source below makes both branches explicit.

  • Try this description: Start, read an input, and check whether it is valid. If yes, process it, write the output, and end. If no, show an error and end.
  • The template is a fixed, editable example. An AI-generated draft can differ; compare every branch with the process you intended.

Make a description that can be checked

“Handle a request” leaves the important decisions unstated. “Check whether the request is complete; return incomplete requests to the sender; send complete requests for approval” gives the diagram meaningful branches. Include exceptions deliberately instead of expecting the draft to invent your policy.

Move from a draft to a shared process

Replace generic actions with the language your team uses. For a hand-off between roles, choose a swimlane template from the collection. For executable business-process notation, follow the BPMN guide and its workstation requirements.

Access and limits

  • Opening the Studio requires an account. Free includes the Studio and keeps up to 3 saved figures in it and 3 cloud Library projects.
  • AI needs your own provider key on Starter or above, or hosted AI points on Plus and above. Free includes no AI. Provider charges and usage limits apply.
  • Pasting recognised Mermaid source and editing this template need no AI. Natural-language generation uses AI and is subject to its allowance.
