Learn tracks

flowss Academy at /learn: hands-on lessons in a stamped practice sandbox of every studio, Foundations to Mastery capstones, exams, the Practitioner and Expert certificates, the flowss Academy Agent and the Docs shelf.
Sculptural study of connected forms and structured ideas

flowss Academy at /learn is flowss's hands-on course. You work in a practice sandbox of each studio — the real islands, rail, controls and ⌘K palette, with everything you make stamped as practice — and every step checks your work as you go. The programme runs from Foundations (the platform every studio shares) through Studios (one track per workstation, each with Core, Practitioner and Expert levels) to Mastery (capstones that carry one piece of work across several studios). Server-verified exams lead to the flowss Academy Certified Practitioner certificate and to per-studio Certified Expert certificates. This page covers the programme, the lesson screen, help, exams, certificates and where your progress lives.

Every count on this page is checked against the curriculum by tests/academy-content.test.ts, so a change to the programme that is not reflected here fails the build.

The programme

Durations are worked out from the steps themselves (reading time at 200 words a minute, 90 seconds per hands-on step plus 30 seconds per checklist item, 40 seconds per practice question) and rounded up to five minutes per level, so they are never typed by hand.

Foundations

Seven short tracks teach what every studio shares: the command palette and the five islands, the Library and its versions and Vault, templates and moving work between studios, sharing and comments, AI points and agents, account security and the API, and teams and classrooms. They run in a replica workspace — a practice copy of the Library, the Share panel, Settings and the Classroom — so nothing you do touches your real account.

Studios

Each studio track is organised into missions: one practice document that every step of the mission keeps working on, so the work builds up the way it would in the real studio. A deep link to any step, or Reset step, starts from exactly where the previous step left off. Every studio track introduces the studio's own agent by name (for example the flowss Weave Agent); in the sandbox the agents are scripted, cost no points and make no network calls.

Mastery capstones

A capstone carries one piece of work across two or three studios — for example screening a review in Evidence, drawing its PRISMA flow in the Lab and publishing the figure in Figure. Each mission ends with a deliverable that the server grades against a rubric it never sends to your browser. Capstones are unassisted: the step hint and the docs shelf are the only help.

Role paths

/learn/paths/researcher and its siblings order and highlight levels for a role — Researcher, Software engineer, Biologist, Clinician, Data scientist, Educator, Product / ops and Student. A role path is a lens on the one programme, not a separate course. Every path but Student meets the Foundations requirement of the Practitioner certificate and includes a capstone; Student is a starter path.

The lesson screen

A step shows its brief and a checklist on the left and the practice sandbox beside it. Each checklist item ticks the moment it is true. When every item is done the step shows a success state with Continue (Enter works too); a step never moves on by itself, and focus never leaves an editor you are typing in.

The sandbox is the studio's own shell in a practice frame: the same islands, rail, shortcuts and ⌘K palette, with the practice commands listed under the sandbox's name. Exports are stamped practice PNGs; Continue in the real studio hands your source to the real studio when you want to keep it.

Every Core step can be completed on a phone. A few Practitioner and Expert steps are marked as better on a larger screen.

When you are stuck

A help ladder sits under the brief. Each rung opens after you use the previous one or after 45 seconds on the step:

  1. Hint — a nudge in words.
  2. Show part of it — the sandbox does roughly half the work.
  3. Docs — the relevant section of the track's docs shelf.
  4. Watch it done — the coach plays the solution.

Rungs 2 and 4 mark the step as assisted. An assisted step still counts toward clearing a level, badges and Classroom assignments, but it only counts toward the certificate's unassisted rule after you redo it yourself (Try it yourself resets the step). Rungs 2 and 4 are not offered in exams or capstones.

The docs shelf

Every track has a docs shelf of hand-written sections, followed by a generated Every tool in this studio section listing the studio's real commands, screens and shortcuts. The generated list comes from the studios' own registrations, so it cannot describe a command that does not exist.

The flowss Academy Agent

The flowss Academy Agent is the live tutor beside each step. It can see the step you are on and its docs. It follows your plan's AI rules: on Starter it runs on your own key, and on Plus and above each answer costs one AI point. It is not available on Free, and it is switched off while an exam is open.

Exams

ExamPaperTimePass

<studio>-expert (9)6 theory questions + 1 practical40 min5 of 6 and the practical
Final24 theory questions + 1 practical60 min20 of 24 and the practical
  • Drawn per attempt. The server picks the questions from a pool at least three times the paper size (504 questions and 58 practicals across the 19 pools), balanced by topic, and shuffles the choices. Answer keys never reach your browser.
  • Closed book. While an attempt is open the tutor, the docs shelf and the help ladder are unavailable. The sandbox palette and the studio's own controls stay, because using them is what is being examined.
  • Practical. The practical is done in the sandbox and graded on the document you leave, never on clicks alone.
  • Time. The limit is enforced on the server with a short grace for the network; an attempt that runs out is graded from whatever was saved.
  • Retakes. A failed track exam can be retaken after 15 minutes; after three fails in 24 hours the wait is 24 hours. A failed final can be retaken after 24 hours, at most three times in seven days. Only one attempt can be open at a time, and a passed exam cannot be re-sat.
  • Feedback. Track exams show your score per topic and an explanation for each question you got wrong. The final shows the overall score and a per-track breakdown only, so its pool stays unexposed.

Certificates

flowss Academy Certified Practitioner needs, checked on the server when it is issued:

  1. the Core level of all seven Foundations tracks cleared, with at least 80% of those steps done unassisted;
  2. the Practitioner exam passed in at least three studios;
  3. one Mastery capstone passed;
  4. the final exam passed.

flowss Academy Certified Expert — <Studio> needs an active Practitioner certificate plus that studio's Practitioner and Expert exams.

Levels earn badges along the way; badges are progress markers, not certificates.

A certificate opens on a print-ready page and downloads as a PDF with a QR code. Its id (FA2- followed by 26 characters) can be checked by anyone at /learn/verify/<id>, which shows the holder's name, the credential, the issue date, its status and the exams behind it — never an email address. Changing the name on a certificate re-issues it: the old id is marked superseded and points to the new one (at most three re-issues a year). Certificates from the old browser-only Academy (ids beginning GA1-) are shown as legacy certificates that cannot be verified.

Where your progress is kept

  • Signed in: each step you complete is re-checked on the server and saved to your account, so it follows you to every device.
  • Signed out: progress is kept in this browser as practice. When you sign in it is imported as practice; steps whose evidence is still in the browser can be re-checked and upgraded. Exam results are never imported.
  • Deployments without accounts (self-hosted or local) run the Academy in local practice mode, and certification shows as unavailable.

Teams and classrooms

  • Teams: an owner or admin can set one recommended path for the team — a role path or a list of levels — and members see it on /learn. There is no view of members' Academy progress.
  • Classroom: an instructor can assign an Academy level or mission to a cohort. The status comes from each student's verified progress. The instructor sees steps done, how many were assisted, the level's exam result with its date and last activity — never answers, documents or practice drafts. See Classroom.
